Southeastern Conference selects StatMonitr for its 2011-2012 Championships
BIRMINGHAM, ALA. -- The Southeastern Conference today agreed to a partnership with StatBroadcast Systems to use the StatMonitr media stats systems at its 2011 Football Championship, as well as its 2012 Men's and Women's Basketball Championships.
The 2011 SEC Football Championship Game will be played on Dec. 3, 2011 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Played in front of a national television audience on CBS, the winner between the Western and Eastern Division champions will be crowned the conference champion and earn an automatic berth to either the Sugar Bowl or the BCS National Title Game. StatBroadcast will provide its web-based media stats system, wireless stat monitors and on-site support for the national media who will be covering the event. This will represent the third BCS automatic-qualifying championship game that StatBroadcast will support, joining this year's Big Ten and ACC championship games.
The 2012 SEC Men's Basketball Championships will also be played at the Georgia Dome during the second week of March. The winner of the single-elimination tournament will earn the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. The tournament will still feature all twelve teams however with the realignment of the conference for basketball this year, the top four teams in the conference standings will earn first-round byes in the tournament. Last year, the SEC Men's tournament used the StatMonitr system for its tournament.
The 2012 SEC Women's Basketball Championships will be held at the Bridgestone Arean in Nashville, Tenn., beginning on March 1. The tournament will feature the same format as this year's men's tournament, with all 12 teams playing at least one game.
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has 12 member institutions (expanding to 14 in 2012-13) and was established in 1933. It was a founding and current member of the BCS, earning an automatic bid in football, and sponsors championships in nine men's and ten women's sports. It is headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. An SEC member has won the past five consecutive BCS National Championship Games and has claimed seven of the 13 BCS National Titles. Current members include StatBroadcast partner Kentucky, along with Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennesssee, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, and Mississippi.
